2012 Korean Film Festival

Korean movies will be shown for free this coming September 18-23 at the SM Megamall Cinemas. Here's a quick look at each of the featured films included in the film festival. You might want to watch some of them in the big screen! :)

1. SpellBound is a 2011 South Korean horror romantic comedy film, starring Son Ye-jin and Lee Min-ki. It is about a magician who falls in love with a woman who can see ghosts. Movie Synopsis.



2. A Barefoot Dream is a 2010 film co-produced by South Korea and Japan. It is based on the true story of Coach Kim Sin-Hwan. In the film, Kim Won-kang, a former soccer player, goes to East Timor and ends up teaching street kids how to play ball. Movie Synopsis.



3. Late Blossom is a 2011 film which is about the lives of two couples who live in the same neighborhood. Movie Synopsis.

2012 Korean Film Festival

The 2012 Korean Film Festival will be held this coming September 18-23 at SM Megamall Cinemas. Seven movies are featured this year: Jeon Woo Chi, Bunt, Highway Star, Spellbound, Late Blossom, Barefoot Dream and Arahan. Beyond The Years

Beyond The Years is a 2007 South Korean movie directed by Im Kwon-taek. It is a story of two adopted children. The girl grew up devoted to singing while the guy grew up totally in-love and devoted to her sister.

The Show Must Go On

The Show Must Go On is a 2007 South Korean movie directed by Han Jae-rim. It is about a man who tries hard to provide a good life for his family by being a gangster despite the plea of his wife and daughter to change his ways.

Forbidden Quest

Forbidden Quest is a 2006 South Korean movie directed by Kim Dae-wu. It is about an aristocrat during the Joseon Dynasty who was inspired to write his own erotic novel after reading one. His work became popular but trouble started when he became involved with the King's favorite concubine.

Sa-Kwa

Sa-Kwa is a 2005 Korean drama directed by Kang Yi-kwan. It is about a young lady who is abandoned by her seven-year boyfriend. She then marries another and gets pregnant. Eventually, her frequent encounters with her old boyfriend encourages her to contemplate on divorcing her huband and reuniting with her old boyfriend.

Barking Dogs Never Bite

Barking Dogs Never Bite is a dark comedy korean movie released in 2000 and directed by Bong Joon-Ho. The story is about a college professor who gets irritated by barking dogs in his apartment and starts to kidnap them.

Old Boy

The 2009 Korean Film Festival in Manila will be showing 7 films for free in Shangri-La Mall starting today until September 29. I must admit that although the titles of the featured films seem familiar (maybe because I read about them in one of the korean forums I visit), I've never really took the time to read the synopsis nor watch the films. So out of curiousity, I've decided to take a look at them and post it here in my blog.



Old Boy is a multi-awarded 2003 South Korean film by Park Chan-Wook. The movie is about a man who was imprisoned for 15 years and after his release, had 5 days for vengeance.

The story sounds interesting but they say this film is violent. I guess I have to watch it and see for myself. I also read that this one will have a hollywood remake.

2009 Korean Film Festival in Manila

I read in Ricardo Lo's column in The Philippine Star that the Embassy of the Republic of South Korea in cooperation with the Korea-Philippine Cultural Foundation Inc and Shangri-La Plaza will hold a Korean Film Festival starting today, September 23 until September 29. So what's good about this? Well, korean film addicts living in Metro Manila will get to see 7 korean films on the big screen at Shangri-La Mall FOR FREE! Yipee!!!
